I am a professional harpsichordist in a major Canadian city, working as a freelance performer and church musician. Instrument maintenance such as tuning and regulation is also of interest to me and provides occasional extra income.
The idea for this project came to me in February 2007 when I realized that my experience with instrument maintenance put me a step closer to making an instrument, as some maintenance techniques such as replacing quills or strings are part of making a new instrument. After that, the thought of making an instrument began to seem a logical, if not inevitable, extension of my maintenance skills.

Thanks for providing such a detailed and comprehensive record of this very impressive project!
My own much more modest attempt at assembling an instrument from a kit can be seen here: http://neapolitan-harpsichord.blogspot.com
